Filming

I’ve been filming for two days in specific area which is Pyramid shape structure by the civic square. Both video shot different angle and different time. I’m going to make some animation in After Effect to experiment to understand what our philosophy is.

3d modeling experience

Today, I tried create 3D building models in Maya. I hope we can finalized our future archiecture sooner so I can try to make in 3D model! Experienced of Maya pictures uploading soon.

self healing system

After I read  Szilard’s previous post comment,-“our bodies ability to “heal” its self, can we capture the beauty of natural rejuvenation, can technology adopt this one day? self healing architecture perhaps…” – I was thinking about what if we can create colour change architecture? Like human skin, when we do sun tan in summer time, our skin colour changes to orange or browner or darker depend on human race. But winter time without much of sun, we became paler. I was thinking we can make multi different colours(like human race) of  textures which changes colour depend on sun temperature or length. It can be a bridge,  a display structure or even a building! Similar idea I mentioned on previous post, a rainbow bridge, we can use leds and light sensor to make these happen.

Also I found an article about “Self healing technology though sun”

– Predictive Self-Healing

Sun has developed a new architecture for building and deploying systems and services designed forPredictive Self-Healing. Self-healing technology enables Sun systems and services to maximize availability         in the face of software and hardware faults and facilitates a simpler and more effective end-to-end experience for system administrators, which can reduce cost of ownership. The first self-healing features are         available as part of the Solaris 10 OS.

Capillary Action

Several factors are involved in capillary action. The first is cohesion, the tendency of molecules of a substance to stick together. Water is a cohesive element, with a level of cohesion, which creates a high degree of surface tension. When water is spilled on a table, it tends to stick together in a puddle, rather than spreading out, because it is cohesive.

The second factor is adhesion, the tendency of some substances to be drawn to unlike substances. In the example of a tree and the water in the ground, the liquid is drawn to the cellulose fibers in the tree trunk, which form small capillaries known as xylem. As the fluid adheres, it creates a meniscus, a small curve, along the edges of the xylem. The surface tension in the water causes the water to climb up as the meniscus forms, because the water molecules want to stay together, and a new meniscus will form as the water is drawn further up into the tree. Without any effort on its part, the tree can draw the water all the way up into its top branches.

BIOLUMINESCENCE

Here are some examples of bioluminescence being put to practical use. Now is to find out how this can be adapted to suit my concept

Emitting Light

Through researching marine biology i have put together a concept, whether or not it is plausible or even possible is another story. But the idea is that what if the same chemical processes that apply to marine species in order to emit light could be applied to technology, some how through nanotech these processes could be applied to existing or new city structures in order to create natural light without the use of electricity.

From my understanding the chemicals luciferin(a pigment) and luciferase(an enzyme) are needed to produce light. The luciferin reacts with oxygen to create light. The luciferase acts as a catalyst to speed up the reaction.

If some how the chemicals and processes could be extracted and manipulated through nanotechnology, the idea is that by 2040 Wellington could be running of natural light produced from this natural process.

Just an idea

Biological Approach

After todays lecture i have been inspired to do some research into biology and in particular transparent species. I want to investigate whether or not it is possible to abstract the natural processes that are performed by these species in order to create this transparent effect.

and whether or not these same processes can help to produce a new transparent material that can be used to construct and strengthen existing and new architecture within Wellington while at the same time utilizing the natural elements like the sun for natural lighting within the buildings.

Below is a link to some transparent creatures that i am going to investigate further in order to find out how and why these processes are occuring

This is an idea I had for research and documentation: to categorize Wellington and its people (from a general point of view) to get an understanding  of what we are dealing with. Some figure should be found, and development needed. Plus, interface, interface, interface…!

ants and humans

…  an important idea I want to push. It embodies a lot of what we are talking about … I believe.

Vision

I had done a whole bunch of writing to get all my ideas down. The are the key points/ideas which  seemed to resound within the group, some of which were already topics of conversation.
