I had done a whole bunch of writing to get all my ideas down. The are the key points/ideas which  seemed to resound within the group, some of which were already topics of conversation.


360 degree camera grid+space experience

This scheme is another development for mapping out a real space to create an on-screen experience of that space, which allows you to walk around without restriction to a certain path. This experiment would require a 360 degree camera, carefully plotted and executed collecting imagery, and probably complicated programming to make it work. I will wait for feedback from the group about this, or try and represent it purely for the sake of demonstrating the idea. How this fits into the philosophy is the aspect of inhabitants of wellington collectively creating the public spaces they live in and share. The reason i tool this approach is because it is as strait-forward and self explanatory as it gets (without creating life scale mock-ups), a language that the average person can understand.

A development for this experiment and street walk  (which would fit in nicely with the work Sam is doing and the work that Jisook is capable of) would be to combine visions of new uses for public space with the existing environment.

Street walk- experiment one

In this experiment I tool a range of still photos in sequence to try to achieve the feeling of moving through a space, much like the experience of playing a game designed in a 3d environment, but skipping the 3d component, using 2d imaging to create the space.

A development for this is planned: To take the images and create a feeling of control for those sitting at the computer. i.e. forward arrow, move forward, side arrow, turn. This is planned to use flash.

I have also experimented with video, mapping out spaces with around 10 connecting paths, each bidirectional. This still needs to be edited to create a particular route.

Bionic Eye

As far as i know, we have successfully fed a digital image into the part of the brain that the optical nerve is connected to. This technology can only get better. I’m exploring the idea of experiencing the world through such a digital interface.


Again, a way to summarize the direction our projects was going in. These symbols represent:

1) Refining (it is a pot simmering on a stove (thanks Ross for the image)

2) The iris flower – because we care about the state of our city, our home. And as a platform for research/ expression/ experimentation in genetic modification.

3) The eye (iris) through which we view the world we inhabit. The iris on a camera

also had relevance to the project regarding another representation of our world.

Group aesthetics

Here are some of my proposals for the aesthetics of our group. It uses the extreme close-up of the eye vein in a subtle and soft composition. Let me know what you think.

Fun Prediction
Some things are interesting and relevant, like by 2015 being able to make your own tooth brush at home =P and by 2031 computers being “intelligent” as humans


Future technologies will provide means for us develop an interconnected city with an expanded collective consciousness which will direct our actions toward the most widely beneficial outcome.
